Dear UPCI Members:

I am pleased to invite you to attend the 27th Annual UPCI Scientific Retreat on June 18 and 19, 2015 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall & Museum on Fifth Ave., in Oakland. I hope that you will join us as we kick off this first event in a year-long celebration of the 30th anniversary of our founding.

Presentations at this year's event will focus on the topics of “Novel Antitumor Vaccine Approaches”, “Interventions for Cancer Prevention”, and “Novel Designs and Promising Combinations”. These three topics are of importance and relevance to all who are interested in cancer.

Douglas LowyAdditionally, we are pleased to announce that the Keynote Address will be given by Douglas Lowy, MD, Acting Director of the National Cancer Institute and Chief of the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology in the Center for Cancer Research. Dr. Lowy's research focuses on the basic and translational aspects of human papillomavirus infection, and cancer genes. He and John Schiller, PhD, also of the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology, are recipients of the 2014 National Medal of Technology and Innovation – the nation's highest honor for technological achievement – for their work in developing a vaccine for human papilloma virus. Dr. Lowy's Keynote topic will be “HPV Vaccination: Precision Medicine in Cancer Prevention”.
