How to Apply

The UPMC Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program accepts applications and supporting documents through the ERAS® (Electronic Residency Application Service) Fellowships website. Application submissions are accepted beginning in July with a deadline at the end of August. Please refer to the ERASĀ® website for more details.

Applicants who are selected to interview will be contacted via email. Interviews will be conducted late August through September.

Materials Required for All Applicants

To process your application for the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, we require the following materials:

  • Common ERAS application form, including personal statement
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) transcripts and/or COMLEX transcripts
  • Medical school transcript
  • A minimum of three letters of recommendation from full-time faculty members
  • Dean's letter of recommendation

International Medical Graduates

Applicants who are international medical graduates must have graduated from a medical school that is certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and have completed at least three years of internal medicine education.

The UPMC Medical Education Program sponsors J-1 and H1-B visas.

For questions about our application process, please contact our Program Manager, Barbara Loveland, at lovelandb@upmc.edu.

The Interview Day

We conduct interviews on select Fridays from late August through September. The interview day concludes no later than 3 p.m.

The day is designed to allow Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program applicants to meet as many fellows and faculty as possible, and to learn about the unique opportunities available at the University of Pittsburgh.

Applicant Pre-Interview Dinners

We invite and encourage all applicants to attend our pre-interview dinners. These dinners are a wonderful opportunity for applicants to meet and talk with current fellows in an open and relaxed atmosphere at one of our favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. Spouses and significant others are welcome to attend.

Please note, applicant dinners are held the evening prior to your interview and begin at 6:30 p.m. Detailed information regarding the dinner will be sent with your confirmation email.

Shuttle service is available for applicants staying at area hotels.
